SNOW, SNOW SNOW

Well, I'm back. It seems that it needs to be white outside in order for me to post.

I spent several hours today clearing the white stuff off of the driveway and sidewalk. It was a very relaxing time! The first really good snow is a very invigorating experience in CNY.

It's great that we will have a white Thanksgiving. It reminds me of the Thanksgivings of my youth: cold, white and wonderful.

Ciao for now

Snow and Another Co-worker from Tunisia

Howdy,

I didn't get lost in a snow drift or die in a tragic skiing accident. I just have not felt like blogging.

With that said, I have been inspired again this week.

I have another colleague from Tunisia (Northern Africa, right on the Mediterranean Sea) visiting. This visitor is much younger than my previously posted guest. He is not as thrilled as the first visitor with the snow and definitely does not like the cold. It has been in the -5 to 20 F range this week and my colleague has hated being out in the cold for even a short time, running from the car to the plant or from the car to the restaurant for lunch.

I have been feeling like I'm ready for winter to be over so that we can all be warm and healthy again (the flu is really nasty this year and has decimated the folks at work and home :( ). My wife and kids have been sick for three weeks now and we are sick of being sick!! However, the attitude of my African visitor has reminded me of the unique blessing that snow is. So I am still wishing for a healthy family and home, I'm OK with the snow for a while longer. I guess that's a good thing, since I have absolutely no control over the weather!

I hope that you all are well and that the flu has missed you and your families.

Ciao,

Jeremy

Lots of Snow

Lots and lots of snow....

We have had quite the week with snow, rain and then more more snow. It's been really beautiful to drive into work each morning and see the frosted trees and houses.

I have a colleague in from Tunisia and he has never experienced snow like we get in CNY. He spent a few years in Southern Germany, but they only get an inch or two and then it melts away. He has fully immersed himself in this sea of cold crystalline water, enjoying the stark contrast to his normal sea of hot white sand. As we were driving yesterday along a back country road with the snow blowing hard across the farmer's fields and covering the road ahead, my friend exclaimed this is just like at home only with snow instead of sand.

He has taken hundreds of photos of the landscape, people, architecture and vehicles to document the extreme beauty of winter that I take for granted every year. It has helped me to realize the blessings that I have around me and don't even recognize.

My friend is also really enjoying our cuisine. He surprisingly exclaimed that "America has good food too!" He went on to explain that our food is as good as the Italian, Spanish, and French cultures. He has been adamant about trying typical American meals and noted that we have a diverse diet which has been influenced by all of our immigrants.

Stay warm and get ready for the season's first Noreaster! It should be quite the weekend!!

Ciao!

Snow, Snow and More Snow

Howdy All,

Winter is finally really here in CNY. We just got our first real lake effect snow of the season. It is beautiful outside, with everything covered in a white frosting. The driving stinks due to the crazy snow, rain, snow combo that we got. The kids all got the day off from school, so there was much merriment in the neighborhood today as the children made snowmen, snow forts and snow angels.

Enjoy!

First Snow

I have a bit of catch up to do since I haven't posted in a while.

We have had our first real snow of the season!!!
We have also had a warm spell to melt off the first snow of the season.

It was very beautiful while it lasted and now the last of the big stubborn trees are finally giving up their remaining leaves (In my case, our red maple dropped all of it's leaves :).
We will have some raking to do on Thanksgiving day before we head out for the annual family feast.

The first snow reminded me again of how fortunate I am to live where all four seasons are fully represented and enjoyed.

May we all give thanks for the copious blessing which we have every day of the year.

In Honor of National Blogger Month

It's an update from the "Great White North". Well, it's not the "Great White North" yet, but it's coming!!!! :-)

The frosty mornings have arrived, soon to be followed by snow!!

The leaves are really changing colors now and the autumn sports have finished.

The obvious question is: To ski or not to ski? Mmmmmmmmmmmmm

A mostly fixed knee says "Go for it", a loving wife says "Are ya stupid?"

At this point, I don't just don't know.

More later.
